Today, Ben, Clay, my mom and I went to Asheville to see the gingerbread houses from the 2005 competition at the Grove Park Inn. First of all, the Grove Park Inn is gorgeous! It was decorated for Christmas and the trees were beautiful. We were totally amazed at the gingerbread "houses" created for this competition. Some depicted elaborate scenes --- like one of our favorites that depicted a scene from Narnia---while others were villages, schools, churches, the First Thanksgiving......I could go on and on and on about the different types of gingerbread houses. Clay has decided that he'd like to try to make one some day.

After seeing the houses (and the resort), we travelled downtown to the Mast General Store, where I bought some red hat notecards to write my RH pen pals and, of course, some candy. After lunch at Barley's (the most yummy calzones!), we stopped at the Biltmore Village shops. We saw some beautiful things with some BIG price tags! Thanks to my mom's sense of direction, we found our way back onto I-40 and then home.
We thought it might snow a little as the day got progressively cloudier, but the only snow we saw was on the mountaintops in the distance.
This trip was such a nice way to start the holiday season.
