A friend of ours from our old church called the other night – she has never called me before --just to talk. Several years ago, during a youth weekend, we hosted the ninth grade boys at our home and her son, who is now a sophomore in college, attended. It was a terrific weekend and a couple of things still make me laugh to this day….especially the foosball table story! (But, I’ll save that for a later piece.)
My friend wanted to let me know that her son has recently rededicated his life to the Lord and is now spending a semester abroad as part of his college program. She told me that “he thinks the world of us” and she wanted us to know. I couldn’t help but wipe tears as she told me this, because, we so often take for granted the things we say and do to others and feel like we never make a difference. And, we may not make a difference in lives of many, but if we can touch just one, that is all the difference in the world.
She went on to tell me that he recently had a literal mountaintop experience in the country he is visiting and while there he spent time praying. It came to him that his parents have always been there for him, offering support, prayers, assistance, and most of all, love even while he was not living his life 100% as he should have been. This made me think, how often do we have our own personal mountaintop experience, whether, like her son on an actual mountaintop, in our own home, or even in our own hearts? How often do we take the time to realize that just like his parents, our God is always there in the background supporting us, assisting us and loving us? No matter where we are in our life and no matter what we are doing. Isn’t that just an awesome thought?
How amazingly this hit home to hear her tell this story. Because, I don’t always “see” where God has been at work in my life and I don’t always take the time to “look” back and let God reveal it to me. How awesome it must be to sit at the top of a mountain and make a revelation through prayer that changes your entire life and how you view it. How awesome it is to have your entire life changed by God and to sit back and revisit how it happened. Have you taken a moment today to reflect on God and where he has been in your life? Even when you couldn’t see him?
Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to

Preach it, sister!
I have actually sent this out to a publisher so, I thought I'd test it here and see what (if any) feedback I get...maybe they'll pick it up, maybe they won't....we'll see!
