Big Day!

Today was a big day in the life of our church, Lake Bowen Baptist! This morning was the grand opening of the new Sunday School and then tonight was the 4th anniversary celebration and Open House for the newly remodeled Sunday School rooms.

Here is how the new SS works: Instead of 52 small lessons a year, the children (grades 1-5) will spend 5 weeks in depth on one lesson. Each week they will travel with a "shepard" to one of five rooms all of which teach the same lesson in a different medium.

1. Tiki Tales - This room is where characters tell the Bible story.
2. Survivor - The game room...this is where I am during the first SS hour and this month, we're going on a scavenger hunt (journey) around the church to learn about Jesus' Journey to the Cross.
3. Blockbuster Bay - The movie room...it has a giant popcorn box, a flat screen TV and popcorn machine!
4. The art room (I can't remember its exact name) - The students will create a project around the month's theme. Sometimes, this might mean cooking in the kitchen, science projects, etc.
5. Cyber Sea - The lesson is presented using various computer games and programs in the new 10 computer lab. Ron has been working on this for several weeks...getting computers installed and loaded and ready to run.

It was absolutely awesome and the kids LOVED it! Some VERY talented people designed, painted and created themed rooms that make even the oldest adults want to be children again. Our Minister of Education has said repeatedly that he wants this to be a place where parents have to drag their kids away because they want to learn more....if this morning is any indication, that is exactly what is happening.

We are so blessed to be a part of church that uses innovation and resources to teach God's word, but most of all, a church where God is first and the desire is that everyone members come in contact with will be reached for God. What an awesome place! What an AWESOME GOD!!
