Eagle Project, Part 1

Today, Clay officially started his Eagle Project!!!!! He decided on and wrote up his project back during the summer and it was approved by the council in August. This morning during both worship services, Clay presented it to the entire congregation and asked for their help. He did an AWESOME job! And, even got a standing ovation at the second service!!! (I was too stunned at the congregation's reaction to even stand up. The pastor told him that he was an excellent speaker and that he could see God using him behind the pulpit oneday.) He also told us that between services several people approached him that had been scouts and/or Eagle scouts and expressed an interest in helping him in any way possible. (The youth minister at church is an Eagle scout and he, as well as the pastor, have been extremely helpful and supportive.)Now, for what Clay is doing.....after spending some mission time at The Haven, the only free homeless shelter in town, this summer, he realized the huge need they have and their inability to keep supplies that are needed to run the place. So, he is sponsoring a suppy drive over four Sunday's in October and then on the last Saturday, Clay, his scout friends and anyone that is interested from the church will deliver and stock The Haven. From there, Clay will write up the conclusion of the project, get the necessary signatures. After January 24th, he will submit his application for Eagle Scout (he'll have all of his requirement s-- time as a life scout, merit badges (which he already has all 21 that are needed + 12 additional for a total of 33!), leadership (he's currently serving as Chaplain's Aide and his finished project.) Then, early spring, he'll have his ceremony if all goes well. Clay is very excited and I anticipate lots of Eagle updates over the next few months on the blog.
