It has been a while since I updated what I have been reading. And, I've read a LOT of books since my last "reading" post! But, here is the latest:
The Giver by Lois Lowery - ordered from a school book club and have wanted to read it for a while. It was really good, but I HATED the ending. Clay read this book last year, so we've had some pretty good conversations about it. He hated it, too.
How to Eat Fried Worms - the kids in my class are fascinated because of the movie and I figured I should read it and recommend or not recommend. It was a cute 8-10 year old story.
The Year of Pleasures by Elizabeth Berg - I read another book by Berg over the summer and I was not disappointed by this one either. Beautiful writing and thought provoking themes of love, loss, friendship and moving on made this a great read. The story centers on Betta, a recent widow who moves from her Boston home to the midwest as she copes with her husband's death.
And, then tonight, while picking up a few things at Ingle's, I grabbed What Remains by Carole Radziwill because I love memoirs. Carole married Anthony Radziwill, John Kennedy, Jrs. cousin and best friend. This beautiful memoir recounts her rise from a normal background to award winning journalist, her five year battle with her husband's cancer and then loss of Kennedy and her best friend, his wife Carolyn, and her husband within a three week period one July.
I believe that every book changes us and adds another element and becomes a part of who we are. I hope that you are finding your reading adds depth, knowledge, wisdom, love and life to who you are.
