It must be me....if something weird is going to happen, you can almost guarantee I'll be involved somehow! I love my night classes at the community college and we truly do have a lot of fun together as we discuss reading (as you can well imagine, I will talk about reading forever!) and my family, and my writing, and TV/movies, and....well, just about anything.
Two weeks ago, I was sitting on a desk at the front of the room teaching and I vaguely heard something and saw a quick movement at the class door. The person in the first seat looked like she had seen a ghost and her mouth dropped open. I asked, "What was that in the hall?" And, as calmly as she could, she pointed and said, "A rat! He looked in the door and ran down the hall!"
Then, last night, once again I'm sitting on the desk when suddenly one whole side of my room looks past me with wide eyes and mouths (there is a window behind me so I am picturing someone at the window). As I turn to see what they see, I hear a "WHOOSH", right as one of the students yells out "FIRE!" No one is trying to come through our window, instead someone is trying to burn our building down! Seriously, he or she had dropped a cigarette into a bush and it went up in flames. We watched for a few moments while the instigator managed to stomp it out.
You see, my life in education is never boring!
