2 Days, 2 Trips 2 Columbia

This week has not gone as planned.

Tuesday morning was going to be my clean and start packing day. I got a phone call about 10 a.m. from the manager of the community that we were moving to....she had good news and bad news. The good news - they were removing the tree that was blocking our view. The bad news -- the community would not be open on June 15 as planned. It would now open in July......maybe. There is some problem with the county water. As if the tree is important now!!!
So, I do a little research, find a few new options, the boys and I head to Columbia to look.
Our first stop, though, is at the SC Department of Archives. I'm taking a class this summer in Columbia through the Department and USC and needed to pick up some paperwork and a text. Outside was this very cool Palmetto Tree. If you aren't from SC, the Palmetto Tree doesn't mean quiet as much to you, but this particular one uses the cannonballs and demonstrates why the tree is important to ALL Americans due to the Revolutionary War. (If you don't know the history and you are interested, message me and I'll post about it later!)

The first two places, which are basically next door to our home, are DUMPS! They couldn't have paid me to live in them. We stopped to see the manager of where we are supposed to live, she gives me an Apartment guide and recommends to other places further down Two Notch towards Spring Valley. We make it to the first one. It is a brand new community, too. Ron meets us and we tour a three bedroom that is the same square footage as our old house!! We all love it, Ron's starving, they are about to close and we need to "run numbers". We decide to leave Ron's car, have dinner and all ride home together....the boys and I will drive back on Wednesday with Ron.

I get up at 4:30 on Wednesday and we leave out about 5:30....now, let me just say that I LOVE driving that early in the morning. If I could have taken pictures while driving, I would have. The sun came up right along side us and it was beautiful.

After dropping Ron off at his car, we followed him downtown, parked on Main and had breakfast at our favorite new breakfast spot--- Capitol Cafe. They have the yummiest shrimp and grits on earth!! (They also have a to-die-for sweet potato cinammon roll.) After breakfast, we head towards the new community to complete our paperwork. Well, I decide we should at least check out the other one, too. We end up checking out 5 or 6 and going back at lunchtime with Ron to the first one to fill out paperwork. Now, we've done our paperwork, but this time, I am not posting pictures until we have signed the lease ----- just in case! The only downside to this place is the middle school zoning. Clay is no longer zoned for Dent, where the TWO Academy is located. However, we are trying to get a few answers about this from the District and the school.

After we took Ron back to work, the boys and I headed out to CSI, my school for next year. We visited with Victoria and Chantel, the Director and Office Manager for a while and toured my room for next year. I am so excited......my room is HUGE! Once we get moved, I can get my room ready and Victoria informed me that in a couple of weeks, I can order the furniture. This is so cool!! I have always been in the "leftover" rooms....you know, I got the desks, chairs and everything else leftover from everyone else's excess! She even mentioned new computers and other technology that I might be interested in...YIPEE!

The boys and I finished our trip off with lunch at Rush's and then headed home. (They both slept while I drove.) We were exhausted!! But, we think we now have a place to live and as long as the movers cooperate, we move in two weeks from tomorrow. That is awesome!

It sounds like you had a busy, but fun two days with your family! Your new classroom sounds really wonderful - I can't wait to see pictures! Every time I read about your trips to Columbia it makes me want to pack up my two little ones and head that way for a day.
