Silly and Serious - Graduation 2007

Kristie and I went to graduation on Wednesday night at Boiling Springs High School. As always, it was a true adventure!

We got there an hour early and still had to park at a church across the street and walk over. From that point on, we saw all of Boiling Springs finest out! I couldn't believe the way people dress for graduations these days. From the girl with her muffin top haning over her too short, too tight skirt to the gentleman in his dress, shirt, tie, overalls and sportscoat to the movie star wanna-be in her cute, bright dress that was stuck in places that, well, we won't discuss. It was a true fashion show!

At about ten minutes before the start, they called a delay due to an impending rain. So, we sat, under a beach towel for about 30 minutes while it rained. Finally, graduation started about an hour late.
This beautiful rainbow was right over the stadium just before it began to rain.Hunkered under the beach towel (obviously someone forgot to teach the teachers that beach towels are not good rain resistors!!) during the rainstorm.

On a more serious note, despite all of the fun, it was a very nice ceremony. I haven't been to a high school graduation in about 13 years (I went to my brother-in-law's graduation a week or so after Clay was born). Everyone should go every now and then....just to remember that life is good and the possibilities are endless. The speeches were encouraging to "live with no regrets" and "live life to its fullest". It was very motiviational. This year the principal is retiring and he gave a wonderful, farewell speech to the class. As excited as I am about our soon move to Columbia, he made one comment that brought tears to my eyes as the reality of it hit....he said that some people would walk out of the stadium that night, after seeing people every day and never see them again this side of heaven. Wow! What a statement....a statement full of truth!

I found it entirely fitting that my last "big" Boiling Springs event was a graduation ceremony. It is an ending, for me the move/for the students high school that marks a huge, exciting, new beginning. And, based on the number of students that appear to be going to USC next year, I can probably count on seeing them around occasionally! :)

Hey I saw some of the outfits you are talking about but my favorite was the man with the overalls, dress shirt and tie. HA! HA!
