Clay practices "Taps" before the ceremony.
The troop had the area ready for the Retirement Ceremony.
Ron serves Clay his country style steak. That was one of the best camping meals I've ever had.
Ron and I are both extremely proud of Clay. And, Ron loves spending scouting time with Clay!
As soon as the sun went down, it got cold....really fast. I forgot gloves and had to borrow Ron's.
I thought this made a very poignant picture: An American Legion veteran surveying the area before the ceremony.
Clay bugling "TAPS".....
For the next series of pictures, really, no words are necessary. Just look at them carefully and consider the seriousness and solemnity of our Flag and the respect that it deserves. It doesn't just represent our 50 states, but also the men and women who have ensured, and continue to ensure, our rights and freedom. I hope that you will reflect on what the Flag truly means to you.

After the ceremony, we warmed up around the fire and enjoyed apple cobbler!

Melanie-
I just finished watching a rented movie and decided to check my email, etc before going to bed. For some reason, even though I chcked your blog earlier and replied twice, I checked your blog again and I am glad I did.
Please tell Ron how proud I am that he is such a hands-on father. He seems to have been able to develop a style of parenting that is not so (Houston/Johnson) harsh which is not a style to copy, but has been able to develop a style of fathering that demonstrates a strong ideal of the correct way to do something and a strong, loving parenting style to influence a child to follow that path without the harsh "beat up" on the child. I am so proud of his initiative/decision to rear his children in a softer, but strong style that results in two great kids who don't duck every time they hear a loud noise!
I commend him. Tell him that he knows that I have always loved him. He was my first baby.
Love
Aunt Marti
