As I mentioned in an earlier post, Clay wanted to put a flag on my grandfather's gravesite for Veteran's Day. (He was a World War II veteran.) So, we went to Chesnee this afternoon to take the flag and put it in his flower vase. This month will be 5 years since he passed away and it seems like he was just with us yesterday. As we were leaving Ron turned around and said, "You know if he's watching us right now, he's smiling. We came to see him." I was his baby until Clay came along. After that Clay and Ben were "his" boys. To this day Papa Walker is still Clay's favorite person. He recently wrote an essay for school on "his hero" and I found it in his backpack....guess who he wrote about? His Papa Walker. And, this week, his school is having a Veteran's Day program. The school asked for pictures of military family members and Clay informed me that he HAD to have a picture to take. So, I'm sure Papa Walker will be smiling again later this week when his boy sings at that program.
